My High School Career…

Standard

Today we were visited by two staff members of Red Lake District High School.  Mrs. Kristoff and Mrs. Martone explained to us how RLDHS is run, and how the classes  work. With their examples and explanations, my class started to get a picture of what our high school careers would look like. Mine is probably going to look a little like this:

-Mostly Academic courses

– Plenty of volunteer hours

–  Drama Club!

–  I’m definitely going to give Co-Op a shot!

– I will probably join Volleyball 🙂

– Sadly, Physical Education….

-Homework. Lots of Homework.

-Student Council!

And chances are, there will be more than just this list.

Reality Has Big Numbers

Standard

Today we visited this site. The site is called Worldometers.info and it has constant live counters of different things going on in the world. For example they have a counter for a number of tweets sent today (148,575,694 and climbing) or the number of days until gas runs out (60,420 and dropping).

Some of these numbers really made me think. For instance, the number of days till oil runs out is 14,944. That’s about 41 years! This class will only be about 54 when that happens! Another number that I found surprising was how many emails were sent today, 378,200,924,937 (and still going). That’s a crazy amount of emails to be sent in one day. Although, I guess the amount does have a reason behind it, which would be communication. Most people use email than sending letters :). The final number I’m going to comment on today would have to be the amount of money spent on illegal drugs, which is $ 349,498,758,108. That is a completely ridiculous way to spend that much money on. That amount of money could feed a small third-world country, probably even more than one! Honestly!

I Found this site really interesting! You should really check it out!

Media Literacy

Yesterday, to add to our knowledge about media literacy we explored this site that had games which featured being safe with  media, and other similar themes.  This educational site was created by Media Smarts.

The game I chose to write and evaluate was Top Secret . I chose this game, because I found it very effective and interesting. It also captured a teenagers mind very well, because I found plenty of their actions realistic. Like how the girl wanted to get revenge on the boy for posting that picture, but in end it just made the problem worse. Or how the other girl downloaded a song on a music program, but didn’t tell her parents that she used her dad’s credit card. It was also fun because you got involved in the story with multiple choice questions that popped up every so often, and that there was no ads flashing all around the screen to bug you.

There was no personal info needed, none of the games were to babyish (though, the pig one was a little bit :D) and all the information was perfectly relevant. It taught us to be careful of all sites we visit, don’t give out personal information, and NO online bullying.Media Smarts did a great job creating this website.

Grade 7 is over…. Grade 8 here we come!

Standard

The beginning of the year was a surprise, I’m sorry to say this but Mrs.Parrish you had me scared. Like very scared. But that was until I got used to your ways of teaching, and got over the crazy techno classroom. ;D There were lots of memorable moments I’ve had through out the year, and one of them was when Sydney and I just burst out laughing in the middle of the computer lab, looking at our old camp stephens photos, especially the one of us canoeing(it did not end well) I made some new friends, like Lisa and Elisha, but most importantly; I felt like this class was my family. We shared jokes, fights, secrets and everything else. I’ve been with this class since SK and I dont know how I put up with them, other than the fact that I’m part of the chaos. In total, I’m probably gonna see these guys until I graduate High school, and hopefully move to england, So why not befriend them all? this class has made grade 7 one of the best years of my life, and I wouldnt change anything in this year for the world, because fights made me stronger, laughs made me happy, and most of all
we created more memories.

A memory is a photograph taken by the heart to make a special moment last forever.

Some of the memories I’ve shared with them would be,

At jubilations, we managed to get a opera singing seagull, to attempt to fly across the stage. and to make his friend a pirate, make me a napkin hat.

Ice skating in party dresses with Rebecca and Chelsea was so much fun! you should try ice skating all dressed up, with a party dress and hair done, I recommend the west edmonton mall because it’s not to cold.

learning a “broken cartwheel” from our superly hyper crazyfied friend Hughie. ( A broken cartwheel is just what he calls his fail of a cartwheel)

Going to fuddruckers and somehow managing to eat a large portion of a GIANT ooey mooey gooey super fudge sundae. Last time me and sydney order separate ones.

and most importanyly, witnessing Josh and Cody fall down a mountain/hill thing, and get big road rash.

No, I’m just kidding the most important would be when all of us were on the trip, and nobody cared who you were or what you did, just that you were having fun and when you weren’t, cheering you on.

Thanks for reading my blog through out the year! if you decide to come visit it during the summer, go ahead! There will probably be alot more pictures posted than right now.

Oh whoops! I forgot to put some of the bad memories for this class, which may or may not be a longer list.

Watching Cody and Josh fall down a mountain/hill thing.

Having a horse slam you into a tree, and then attempt to eat your shoe.

Thinking your stupid horse is going to run you off a cliff.

Climbing to the top of a mountain, in a freezing cold blizzard, and then witnessing the break of a very important camera.

Losing your wallet in the west edmonton mall, and never finding it.

being threatened to be stabbed with a pen, numerous times.

Having to watch a broken cartwheel. No need to say anymore.

Watching and laughing your head off as Brent locks himself in a gym.

THE WALDO SUIT.

Thanks for reading my blog! and feel free to come visit in the summer!

Are teens addicted to media?

Standard

I think that the statistics are right about today’s teens being addicted to media. Iagree with them because of myself being one of the teens and also because of information on a survey we participated in. My first proof, is that on the survey it says teens spend ten hours and forty-five minutes of their day on media. My second is a personal experience. I know that myself and most of my friends are addicted to media. I know this because we all spend most of our days connecting through social networking sites, and working with each other on apps like Instagram. My final proof is that media is really big right now in electronics, things like Ipods and laptops are huge. With them being so in right now everyone wants one, and goes out to buy one. I know everyone in my class has an Ipod that belongs to them, or a family member. When everyone buys them, they get exposed to more and more media that will keep them playing or listening, which probably causes them to get addicted. In conclusion I do agree that today’s teens are addicted to media.

Career Cruising

Standard

Today we visted the website career cruising
,to take a test on our future careers. In this website you can take a test that will give you examples of careers that would be good for you. Some of my results were director of photography, architech, set desginer, and fashion designer. I found all of my results suited me well, and that they made me smile. I also found out that if you are really interested in one of the results, you can click on it and it will give you information and interviews of that job. Career Cruising is definitely the way to go, if your looking to learn about careers and jobs.
