The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra

Standard

The Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra ( TBSO ) was a great experience for everyone. You got to listen to beautifully orchestrated pieces of music, and you also got a great learning experience about music. Conductor Daniel taught us many things about how music can be humorous and it can also tell a story. He started off by using a visualization technique that made of visualize a scene where we were swimming in the Bahamas and a shark randomly showed up. He illustrated this by having the Orchestra play an excerpt from Jaws, which made us laugh.

I loved having TBSO come and play for us. They started off with the classical song ” Entry of the Gladiator” and then they told us to rise for the national anthem. When we all rose , they played Hockey Night In Canada. Everyone had a couple of good laughs over that! following after that, they played a musical piece to represent a cat. Next they performed Flight of a Bumblebee, 8th symphony 2nd movement by Beethoven, Fire proof, frere jacques, satire on a march, and as the final “a barn dance sort of piece”.

I highly recommend you like them on facebook, or check out their website here.

The Clean Bin Project

Standard

I think movies/projects like this are important because it helps teach the world that we need to change and stop polluting and causing waste.  It was important for Jen and Grant to challenge themselves and make the documentary because it shows people the difficulty of the challenge, but that anyone can do it if they set their minds to it. It also shows them that if they try hard enough, anyone can make a difference.

Dramalicious!

Standard

This morning our entire class participated in a game of moods for our drama activity. Moods is a fun game where you have betting cards, random moods, and random sentences. You have four betting cards and the number on the card is the amount of points you get, if you guess the person’s random mood. You can only use that betting card once, until you bet with all four of your cards. The person who’s turn it is to go up front, rolls the dice and the number on the dice is the number of the mood you have to do, then you have to read a random sentence from a card in your mood.

To me, it was really easy to get into the mood because acting is easy to me. If you have never acted before you might find it harder to get into the mood.  With random sentences ( example: I feel like I’m going to vomit all over) it can also be super hard to make that into your mood.

It can also be hard to to figure out what mood the person is trying to portray . It all depends on how obvious they are, and like I said before, if they are a good actor. If the person is a really hard mood, sometimes you don’t get alot of points.

Some strategies that can help you in the game are:

  • watch their motions/expression carefully
  • Listen to their voice closely
  • only bet high numbers when your positivee

Mr.Mota’s Presentation On Drugs

Standard

Today in class we had a presentation about drugs and addictions, from an actual counselor Mr.Mota. We learned about different types of drugs and what affects they have on your body. One of the drugs and effects we learned about was cannabis ( marijuana) and that it effects every cell in your body and sticks to your brain.

We learned lots of information about the effects of drugs, addictions, types of drugs, and other things drugs are called. I do have some questions concerning drugs though.

  • How did people figure out how to abuse medical drugs back in the day?
  • How many dangerous drugs our in our world right now?
  • If the cancer gets cured on the person using marijuana or pot how do they get rid of the addiction?

I would just like to say thank-you to Mr.Mota for giving us this very informative education. He taught us lots and I know I will think wisely before using drugs.
